Happy tomatoes

by julieg 28. May 2009 06:30
While ago I bought two Levington’s Organic Blend gro-bags to grow our tomatoes in, in our two small plastic greenhouses in our backyard. The instructions say to “delay planting until first flowers open.”  Well, even in my limited experience, I have never heard of that before so I ignored the instructions and planted up one of the gro-bags anyway with a Golden Sunrise, a Sweet Olive and a Tumbling Tom. They have been in their bag now for about three weeks and look happy enough to me. Meanwhile, I have kept the rest of the tomato plants (one of each of the same varieties) in their pots in the greenhouse waiting for the flowers. No flowers yet; very unhappy looking plants.  At the risk of being too impatient I have given up waiting for those little yellow flowers and have stepped in and popped them in their cosy gro-bag too. I might be imagining it, but I’m sure they’re looking a lot happier now.
